what type cams would I have on a standard 998?

just asking cause im being offered a bmc aea649 cam. probably too wild for a 998 anyway but could be nice to just hold onto incase I go crazy in the future or if i put it into the next motor that goes in.

how would I tell if I have the pin or spider type?

Look in back of cam, if no cross pin in there it's Spider drive.
Spider drive cam has 3 drive slots in back for the spider.

A 649 cam in a 998 would be unusable on the street.

The 649 is the Cooper S factory full race cam and is actually a C-AEA-648, even though it is stamped 649 and commonly called that. Nothing under 4000 revs then all the way to 8200. Needs a full race prepped engine, definitely not a 998cc.
