Post subject: | Tuning question and bigger/twin SU? |
It's me yet again I have an 1098 clubman engine, the Doc reckons it's not original bore, so could be 1120 or 1130 or whatever, it has a extractors (apparently I dunno what that looks like in comparison to normal exhaust manifold), and larger than standard exhaust (not sure about the size). Not sure what other goodies I have under the bonnet as I've not removed the head or anything yet. 1) So my question is, I currently have a single 1 1/4" SU bolted on, most likely standard needle and a Linx Ramflo. I can pick up a 1 1/2" SU for pretty cheap ($30 or so), should I move to this or should I wait a few months (and several paychecks of saving) and bolt on a twin 1 1/4" setup? Is it worth a twin setup if I have a standard head and cam or will the 1 1/2" be enough? 2) how can I check what gear I have like what cam I am running, whether the head is modified, if I am running any "goodies" that I'm not aware off besides taking off the head? Can I see the cam type with the rocker cover off? I am not looking for much out of my tired little engine but the 1 1/4 inch single looks pissy and out of place. For $30 I am just wondering if it is worth it and if the gain is enough to suffice a change... Cheers! |

I'd fit twin 1-1/4s. My 1132 Clubbie has no more torque than yours, and it's got a worked head, 270 cam, LCB and a 1-1/2" SU. It'll go but, when the 40 Dellorto gets bolted on... |

I'd pay 1/2 that just for the sound! They must be getting rare these days. Hey what about a new SU carb pin for the 1 1/4"? Surely that will improve the running? esp for $11 (Karcraft). is it worth it? |

I don't think they are that rare. Plenty of 40DHLA Dellortos and Weber 40DCOEs are still about, off Alfas.. Dunno what a new Weber 40 or 45DCOE is here worth now. Probably cheaper to buy one in from UK.... |

Whatever, a Solex PHH wasn't a bad carb so I've heard. Bit hard to get bits for now, I'd think. |
