Hopefully we will be adding a small lathe to our workshop tools soon. I'm looking forward to it! I gotta learn to use it for metal first, I've only had limited experience lathing from woodwork class in high school.

Once I get my Ramflo filter I will have to look in to making some sort of stub stack setup. Vizard ways you should *always* have some sort of ram tube setup, unless you have severe manifold restrictions. I'm thinking though a 3.5" inlet manifold without ram tubes is better than a severly bad swan neck with ram tubes!

After Doc's advice I started ringing around so thought people may be interested in the results:

Hardimans have the redline manifold (short neck - about 4") for $162.75 incl GST
Mini spares at Padstow have what looks to be the same item for $195 incl GST

Karcraft have Maniflow LCB extractors for $281 +GST
Mini spares have two lots of Manifolds (not Maniflow as far as I can tell) for $154 and $195 respectively - their book talks about various applications.

Minispares used to do a copy of the Longman (UK) manifolds that were tuned length for worked engines specifically but no longer stock these.

So it looks like a trip to all three, Karcraft for the extractors, Hardimans for the manifold, and Mini spares coz I need some other stuff from them (not available at Karcraft) anyway.

you wouldnt happen to work in some kind of office, would you??? :?

When you cant BUY what you want, you MAKE it instead.... and a lathe is sometimes needed more often than a power drill.....

For those of us who like to CUSTOMISE, a lathe is incredibly handy... 8)

Try Greg at Mini Classic for that Redline 3005 short manifold. He had them for around $120 or so.

Lathes are fantastic pieces of precision equiptment! there uses are countless, lucky Ivan (my boss-Mini Spares and Repairs) happens to have two, one which weighs about 4 tonnes and can accomidate a 16+ inch wheel, and take 1/4 inch radius cuts!!! personally ive lathed pulsar dizzy (infact did one this morning), honda brakes and hub flanges, and have tidied up a few S wheels that had been repaired (ie i beadblast the wheel, weld up all the chunks that have been taken out of the rim by gutters over the years and clean up the excess weld on the lathe.. paint and voila! concourse worthy S rim, heh) and ive only had acces to the lathes for a a month or so.

There bloody expensive though... and you can forget doing wheels and brakes in a small one......

Heh ive still got those stacks you made for me Kev, just like the ones pictured. I saw some of Graham Russels stacks the other day, very nice...

In Hope St, Ermington. Off Wharf Rd. Not sure of address, it's about 500M down from Wharf Rd, on the RH side.

Phone 9874 7211, mob 0411 869 438, Greg Maleure.

Just got a redline manifold from Mini Classic, cost - $159.50

I guess they have gone back to regular pricing :)

I used the redline site to contact sales and ask for prices, they said the manifold was $162.72 through them.

As I said before, if fitting a 45 carb, port the 3005 manifold out. You need some volume in there, according to my local Weber guru, who has the dynamometer... 8)

Ripped Off!!! redline quoted me $162.75!!!!! - did they round up or down? (scroll up a bit :))

Thanks for posting though - saves me a phone call or visit.

have you fitted it yet? how does it fit with respect to the firewall? what air cleaners are you running?

Doc - those short stack-stub things. Are they available to buy anywhere for those of us who have no lathe and very limited mechanical ability?

No the stubstaks shown are not currently available anywhere that I know of.
Maybe I could make up a few pair- I'd need to work out pricing for materials, my labour etc.
I'll let you know.

If running a 45 Weber, Russell Engineering already makes a full 360* radius stack which is very short, but U can just fit a sock to it. Nice if you have room... won't fit Dellortos though.

Keep us informed Doc, Id hand over the money for em if you decide to go ahead with it :)

Now all thats missing is the airfilter.. i've noticed lynx sell all their gear online, http://www.lynxcorp.com.au so i might get the 440S from there.

I guess finding one of those finer filter pads is going to be near impossible.
