For those who want one to rebuild, check the `for sale' forum... Mini Imports has new shipment.. $675 each.
Beats scrounging for all the parts...

Pretty good value for the money, at $650, I reckon- considering you get gearbox, starter, alt, carb too..
Hell, it might even run good!

His stock 1275 heads aren't a bad price either. I once paid $220 for a BARE 1275LS head...

is there a 1275 that we should stay away from, or are they all pretty much the same in internal quality??

Which year model 12g940 head would be best?

Not much between them really. Metros are all A+ blocks, but they work the same as earlier ones- same bore and stroke, a rebore uses same pistons etc.
The 12G940 Metro 1275 heads (either std Metro or MG Metro) are both ported a bit better than early heads (like 1100S or 1275LS) were...

Like I said, I think good value. By the time you buy a bare head off someone, add new valve springs, collets, valves & guides you are looking at a lot of bucks. I know, I've done it a couple of times..

re the unleaded inserts- to import them from MiniSpares UK, you will pay about $70 for 4. Then you would need to get them fitted by a machine shop- could cost $50-$100. You would still have to get the valves faced and the seats recut, more $$....
I reckon it's worth it if the seats are worn- until then I'll keep running Flashlube in my 1310.

Surprise surprise... the "1100S" is not a genuine "1100S". the 1275 was actually an 1100. Both cars were totally hacked.

Are you glad you didnt win???
