Hey Kevin,

What does the rotor button in the Nissan dizzy supposed to look like? Mine was an ordinary rectangular shape usual type but when I was at Supercrap today I looked it up out of curiosity thinking I might get a new one and the list points to a round one

Stock rotor is a balanced, ie double-ended one.

Round would be OK, if it fits....

For anyone in Adelaide still looking for a D4R85 there is one at the northern U Pullit at Elizabeth. The Pulsar is hidden amongst the Holdens instead of the other Nissans which is probably why its still on there. $45-$50 will probably get you the Dizzy and coil.

different resistance - 4 & 8 ohm from memory. the car won't run well (at all) if it has the wrong coil. This is probably why people describe the electronic ignition has having a fatter/better spark.

Ps I remembered that I had left the coil out of the things to keep off your freebie Honda. You do need to keep the honda coil for the same reason for when you put a Honda ignition. I would assume it would be the same with the nissan also.

JAM,

Not really. I bought one already converted which is now on my car, I also have an umodified one put aside as a spare.

Apparantly the Oz Mini magazine (mini Magic?) did do an article on it in one of their (4?) issues, so maybe someone may have that and could copy it for you.

There is more machining work to be done than with the Nissan as you have to dissassemble it, hacksaw off the base at a certain point and make up a collar to suit the mini clamp. The guy I bought mine off machined some aluminium for this purpose and used araldite to attach to the base - sounds dodgy but looks and works ok.

Graham Russell would probably be able to help as I think the guy did the machining there.

You are welcome to come around and have a look at my car for ideas. I can guide you on the wiring up of it as I did that part myself. I think Ausmini4u has also done this conversion so may have some details.

Kevin.

Dunno about the Honda one, but the Nissan has a 1.5 ohm coil. That's why it gives fat sparks compared to a normal 12V 3 ohm one. (1.5 ohm coils are usually used in points ignition systems with a ballast resistor, which knocks the applied voltage back to 6 or 7V). But in this case it gets the full 12V applied.. :P

I'm running .040" gaps, no problem at all. I've had it up to 8000 rpm. The Pertronix ignitor I had in before with a Bosch GT40 (3 ohm) coil wouldn't fire them over .037" gap.
