sorry call me a total car virgin but whats an altenator whats a distributer? like i know the altenator recharges the battery's charge but distributer? what would i need to change if i were thinking of subs and big sound? and recommendations of good matches?

The distributer is the thing that makes the spark plugs spark.
For a big sound system you will need a big alternator.

Hi guys. A question that DrMini or Marcel might be able to answer for me. The breaker plate is held in by 2 screws, just along side of one, is a small notch, half in the body & half on the plate. By loosening these screws & using a small flat blade screwdriver in the slot, the breaker plate can be rotated. What will be the effect of altering the position of this plate? Will it vary the maximum advance, or only alter the effect from the vacuum unit?
Thanks. Scott.

Thankyou so much 1st to Doc (aka kevin) for his instructions and 2nd to Hagar for his inspiration 4 me to do the conversion and the other guys who sent me pics - i should be shot for not knowing what a goddam flange is.......

Putt Putt now not only has the 1310 under the bonnet (with thanx to many other forummers) but the Pulsar dizzy went straight in - i was not sure too much about the wiring but saw an n12 with dizzy on at wreckers 2 days ago (black with white stripe wire to positive and blue to negative on coil) so hooked main wires as per that - i then hooked the little third wire (same spot as mini dizzy) upto negative on the coil - but then got NOTHING no fire, so told my little bro to disconnect the little wire and Putt Putt kicked like a stallion in Brokeback Mountain   he fired just like a bought one and has not missed a beat since.

cheers all - btw to anyone thinking of doing this the 85 has about 10 times the meat to file off than the 83 does (i have an 83 ready for the 998 rebuild)

ta gerard

That is the points gap adjustment. Opening the points will advance it a bit, closing em will retard.
Normal gap is .015" when the moving points rubbing block is on top of the cam.

Sorry Doc I think you misunderstood. I was referring to the Pulsar dizzy I'm converting. The 'breaker' plate does rotate when you move a screwdriver in the slot, but does this effect the total advance or just fine tune the timing?

OK I know what you mean now.
I just lined those marks up when I put one back together. I think it may vary the relationship between the rotor and the cable lugs in the cap, ie where the spark jumps from on the rotor.
But, I could be wrong...

Thank you Doc I did. I like to ask on as many forum's as possible, you never know who is awake. just have to go to the store to get some terminal ends. I don't have the right size on hand.
