I have two Voltage Regulators ( Dynamo type) I am about to gut one to leave in place for the authentic look and do the alternator conversion.

One is "Lucas Australia" and the original off the car "Lucas England" - not that that matters much as it is on the covers and they are interchangable. There is slight visual variation (real slight) in the construction but otherwise identical. The English one gives a 50% higher resistance reading (148 ohms vs 104 ohms)

Which one would you keep for possible future restoration if needed?

The Lucas Oz one would be the later. Doesn't matter really.
BTW you really don't need to gut it out just to make a J-box. There are only a couple of wires that need joining, I'd solder the joints and put into a standard J-box, then keep both regulators.
If you don't want to solder the wires together, use bolted ring terminal connectors.

<edit> my 850 was done by PO without the regulator box, I'm going to fit J-box as said.
