I know you said not to quote you, but it depends what type of dyno it is.
Generally it is at the wheels but not always.

As I said, Graham Russell's ENGINE dyno. Much more accurate for serious tuning, they're more repeatable from run to run. 8)

<edit> for a Mini, you take the clutch cover off and bolt an adaptor onto the 3 flywheel puller bolt holes, then there's a `tailshaft' goes from there to the water dyno.

so, it's HP actually measured at the crank.

Mini engines aside, is there a "preferred" aftermarket engine that would make an easy swap..? I have seen a few project cars with anything from Toyota Starlet engines to Honda Civic, Suzuki Swift and even Rover boat engines and motorbike engines but didnt want to go TOO overboard with things. I just wanted a nice simple conversion that will keep my Mini up with traffic and will be easy to engineer and register. :)

Is it possible to get a half cut of a similar small car (like a Daihatsu Mira or similar) and basically modify the Mini subframe to fit the engine..? Also do you keep any of the Mini componentry or is it better to remove everything and install the aftermarket equipment (ie steering, suspension, brakes, etc)

Are there any websites which have step by step information on this sort of conversion?

my dream:

Honda V-tech type R motor in my mini... ( wouldn't say no to a turbo in there somewhere)

u need i think, a modified metro sub frame... etc.. someone correct me if im wrong!!

but go round to all the different internet sites and see the pros and cons to all conversions... but it all comes down to your decision man...

The problem with hunting websites etc is... how do I put this? "TELL 'EM THE PRICE, SON". Everyone has seen an ad, seen a car, heard of a car, felt a car, dealt a car, smelt a car but no b*stard ever can tell you where or how much.
he he he

Seriously, I've heard prices ranging from $5k to $10k to REALLY silly money. Considering I was toying with the idea of spending $8-$8.5 on reco engine and 5 speed box do I toy with the idea of playing (and possibly losing money in a conversion doesn't work)
