Hi all, haven't posted in god knows how long.
Went to NSW Mini clubs show & shine the other week (HI to those I saw & met) The night before the show I went down to LAKE EMBER (LAKEMBER) to wash the mini (yes i DID wash it) while I was there a black clubman convertable cruised in a& waved at me, asked him if it was engineered & he said it was so I said I wanted a chat, then he left. don't know what I said!

Anyway I have shell I am thinking of chopping the top on. Has anybody on the forum got a recpie for this. I dont want to reinvent the wheel again.

Many thanks

Paul.

my first impression would be that you:
get yourself an angle grinder and a MIG welder

do your stuff and get someone to inspect it

is that how it usually goes?

I have both of those things but engineers, whose sanction you need for full rego in NSW need some assurence that you have not created a wepon of mass destuction insted of a cute little modified vehicle. Also I don't what to cut first then find I have stuffed the shell up. This is just a progect for the future as the car is not going anywhere & is not currently rusty. Just trying to gather info & prepair. Current project is repair of a badly burnt and dented Clubman Traveler.

The roof gives a Mini much of its structural rigidity. Without that, it's a bit like a wet paper bag..
A serious amount of stiffening in the sills and underneath is needed to make up for its removal.
Talk to an engineer, before you light the oxy, or plug in the angle grinder..

I dont mean to put this car in another post, but I like the idea of this as a topless Mini... Alhtough I would have kept the front windscreen... There are a number of examples of these roadsters. Some flares and 13's and sports suspension and it would be a sweet sweet ride

Hey Ben thanks for the welcom back. Repair Job was top notch but the glue on the bonnet badge must have been a bit old as it fell off on our way back from NSW club show & shine the other day. Repairer is going to get me another one.

I'll have to check out that car but I really want to build a car with opening doors & a fold back top maybe even a carson top with a slight windscrean chop.

Paul
