Sorry to drag up an old thread BUT...
I purchased one of Ben's fantastic trigger wheel kits only to find it won't clear my Minispares timing belt cover. (I already had to trim the original A+pully to make it fit in the first place.)
Does anyone know of a way to get a crankshaft pulley that sits out further from the timing case?
I'm not that concerned about having to space out all the other ancilaries to line up as I'm fitting a daihatsu alternator conversion at the same time, but definitely want a pulley with a damper on it.

By how much does the wheel fowl on the belt cover? you may be able to just thin the wheel down if it is only 1-2 mm. They are approximately 5mm thick could be trimmed to 3mm and it may give enough clearance. You could shim the pulley out further also to give more clearance but that will involve removing the key which can be difficult.

I just have to add that these trigger wheels fit the standard Timing Chain Cover with out modification.

As you can see without the trigger wheel it's pretty close already:

I had to trim a bit off the pulley to make it fit in the timing belt kit in the first place. The mini spares timing belt kit comes with a longer bolt for the pulley to factor in that it sits further out.

This setup would be the ideal outcome but when I trialled this the pulley is so far out it does not engage the keyway so is essentially freewheeling.

Why not put it on the outside then like I did with pristic's? The engine mount bracket can be trimmed a bit for belt fitment.

It might be an issue with the radiator. Whereabouts does it mount to?
And if you could take the trigger wheel down to 3mm it should have a bit of room.

Thanks Doc, not my first option but this does seem to be the easiest way to get it fitted. There should still be plenty of room to fit between the radiator.

Yep the rad was not a problem, but mounting the sensor to clear everything was a bit trickier.
Note that the inside of the harmonic balancer is rough cast, I took a light cleanup cut in there for a couple of mm to locate the trigger wheel concentric.

There's not much room there at all definately not enough for the wheel.
One way of fitting it would be to turn the inside out of the wheel and then turn down the otherside of the harmonic balancer and press fit the wheel on to it. This way it wouldn't stick out any further than the balance does now. Only down side is removal of the sensor to change the belt.

I did that with Benjamin's, but there isn't much metal to screw onto. Had to use M5 screws I think.
I then cut an old one up for a look before we did pristic's.
Also if you attach to the outside part and it ever turns on the rubber, all your timing goes out. Not that I've seen it happen on a Mini one...

Thanks

Holy thread revival!

I am planning on fitting a megajuice to the Moke... It's a 1098... Will 92's kit work? And... Is he still around ☺

Still making the kits if anyone wants one, also make a different wheel to fit belt drive cams now.
Kit is different to want is pictured above, the VR sensor mounting bracket now comes off the engine/ gearbox mount.

I have one of 92's kits. It is great for normal engines but I would like to use the balancer that suits poly-vee belts as used on the last cars produced. This is to drive a supercharger.

The trigger wheel doesn't fit that style of pulley. If I could buy a second kit that suits poly-vee pulley I certainly would.
