I have just bought a 1974 Clubman S with twin carbies and was wondering if anyone has had the problem with the air filter sitting against the firewall and if there are any ways to modify the carbies. The carbies are dell somethings.

YES. Sounds like you have a Dellorto? on what inlet manifold?

I've had a Dellorto 45DHLA on mine for 10 years and yes, there's not much room there.

1. Use a Lynx Ramflo 440S filter. It is offset upwards for clearance.
Altnough these are really for 38, 40 or 42mm carbs, they will fit on a 45 and work. Make sure the filter's intake holes to the carb are big enough- enlarge if needed.

2. You can remove the carb setup and gently hit the firewall with a BFH (big effing hammer) to create a little clearance....

3. If it's a Redline 3005 manifold, you can set it up on a milling machine and remachine the carb flange angle from 12 to 15 degrees. This tilts the carb up a little. Stud holes need to be retapped at a slight angle after doing this.

I have had no problems since doing these mods. 8)

<edit> there was a typo in filter #.

I am not sure of what manifold. I am very new to this mini way of life!! I was thinking that I could get a plate made up with a slight angle on it to lift the filter a bit.
Thanks for the reply. :D :!: :!:
