But then the manifold won't locate on the head. I build the ends of it up with weld (MIG or oxy weld) then file it to slide neatly onto the studs..
This is what i did on my 1098, worked quite well, just be careful when cutting, Itd be pretty easy to put a hole in the inlet. Definitley wouldnt bother trying to save the exhaust part of the joint manifold, although i remember reading somewhere it can be done (David Vizard?).
We ended up linning up the inlet on the head, and marking it all out and welding a couple of washers on made it very easy to locate.
