Weber or Dellorto, they stay in tune! 8)

I know, guys, I'm a heretic... but I've done my share of SU tuning, singles and twins. You are never sure that the needle you have (out of 800 or so different ones), is the right one! :P

It really comes down to what you are going to use the car for.

Either will be great.

A weber is more for top end and race apps. To do properly, you may need to cut the firewall too

Twin su's are better all round and are much quieter than a weber, but require a little more to set up properly.

For my road car, I replaced my weber with twin su's. Much more drivable at normal round town speeds. heaps quieter!!!!. Can't tell the difference in the top end

The webber will give you top end power and will be easier to tune by a person that knows webbers well.

A hif44 SU (import su) will give you a better off the mark performance, andt will loose only a couple of hp over a webber.

I think that the su will be a better bet, a single that is.

Never had this problem with SU's Doc.

Just do them up....fit them up....and rolling road them

Perfect very time :P

Off the line...

My 1310 clubman with 40DCOE Weber fluffs and bogs down off the line to the point of almost stalling on occasion. Takes quite a bit of revs and carry on to get it going but takes off like a scolded cat once it does. It sounds like a weber despite their relative advantages, may not suit what you want out of it.

I agree with the comment that tractability may suffer with a weber for a runabout town car. I live in Sydney and don't look forward to driving it in heavy traffic - fortunately I don't have to as it is club-plated.

i heard that twins dont go out of tune, its just every thing else that does, ie plugs, filters,. so adjusting the carbs just corrects the faults caused buy this?
isnt the only way on them becoming untuned it the screws are turned?

It's not so much that twin SUs go out of tune, but people can't stop fiddling with them....!

I run a Dellorto on my car but I do have a pair of HS4s on the wife's car (when it's finished) and I've had twin HS2s and HS4s on my Minis before.

I like the fact that properly jetted, with chokes that aren't too big, the Dellorto needs no messing with. It ran for 7 years before I even played with the jets....
And yes with a 277/286 duration cam and 1.5 rockers, it will still go down to 50KMH in 4th gear and pull away clean, as long as I don't treat the throttle like an on/off switch..

i agree with stuart on the hif44 su's i cant beleive they are so underated in this country as vizards book states that you can get up to 115 hp out of a worked engine using this beast with the weber only getting marginally better figures. When it comes down to cost it also makes sense as most mini owners are tight ar_e's and want to spend -5 for something advertised for $40 SO THE SU at about $140 with manifold is great against $350 for weber
thats my 2 bobs worth

I run a 40DCOE on my 1098.. pulls very hard down low. I can also pull away at 50km/h in 4th no probs. If you like induction noise get a weber! i have used a fair bit of sound deadening to keep the noise down (mainly to make conversations in the car possible) and its still quite loud with that nice throaty side draught carb sound.

The problem with that 'Nice throaty noise' is your the only one that hears it......the people in the cabin

I prefer a nice sharp exhaust note...much nicer...and everybody gets to hear it

Er... I beg to differ- outside the car, my Dellorto makes more noise than the RC40 exhaust does.. :P
