Time to turbo-charge the mini so it can keep up with the Stang :-)

Hi Matt, Hope you are keeping well, and all is going good up your way. Stock standard 289, the mini would be right up it's tail pipes. Put some bends in and see yeah later, but doesn't the mustang cruise nice :D. Even as good as the mini is going I still would like it a bit leaner. I was thinking of coming down a size or two in the injectors. Maybe one day I will stop playing with it and just appreciate how good it is already :) .

What's the latest on this build :?:
Now I'd assume it's well run it have you had any hickups of any sort :?:
What fuel consumption are you getting :?:

And once again what are the engine, gearbox, diff, ignition and fuelling, power etc specs (just so we don't have to go back through the pages) :?:

Kenno

You must be physic  After 12months of adjusting and re-adjusting the tune it has been going realy well. But, whilst in Hay It had an hic-up where it lost complete power, both, go and electrical and before rolling to a stop it coughed and off we went like nothing was wrong. Luckly it wasn't being driven back to Sydney it enjoyed the trip on it's trailer.

Knowing things just don't fix themselves I took it out yesterday and drove it hard down the Hume Hwy. All good for 10K's then it surged and introduced a rather concerning rattle. Stopped straight away and trailer it home. First thoughts, one of the pulleys had come loose, or it had jumped a teeth on the timing belt and valves were kising the pistons.

As you can imagine I'm not in the fly in and fix mood. but, initial diagnosis is, no melted plugs, no holes in pistons, no loose pulleys and belt not jumped.

But, here is the big one, NO COMPRESSION in 3 & 4 thats when I shut the garage and went and chopped firewood.

The prize goes to "morris1100". Gasket blown straight through between #3 & #4. The good news is that the rattle I thought I heard must have been a whole lot of pinging. Not a mark on the valves or the top of the pistons :D . It was a 2mm thick one made by Allied Gaskets, Revesby in Sydney. Going back to the 1mm BK450 clone that Matt Read had made for the twinkies. I will Just have to back off the over lap a smidge.

It all may have been assisted by the power surge it developed in Hay, when it lost all power then kicked off again all of a sudden. It may be coincidental to the head gasket, but whilst pulling it down I discovered the main power suppy to the coils had worked real loose.
