Hi,

I'm just fitting a Smiths tacho that I got hold of but its not working.

It's one of the current sensing type I believe -

It's a 4/6/8 cylinder gauge and I've got it set to 4 cyl

It has three spade connectors marked the following:

Red - Positive
Black - Negative
Blue - Sensor

Red - Fuse connector 4. I want it to get power when the key is 'on'
Black - I've crossed over and am using the earth from my temperature sensor guage.
Blue - I have connected to the Negative side of the Coil. This is the side that goes into the dizzy. My car is negative earth.

It also has a spot for a bulb to plug in, which I haven't done yet & two posts for mounting. I'm not grounding the casing at all.

Any suggestions?

dewey, in the olden days, the "sensor" was an extended low tension wire looped around a purpose built terminal block on the back of the instrument....however, yours sounds more modern

Its an old school one. It's one of the Current Sensing types 'RVC' is the model prefix.

If nobody can see anything obviously wrong with the way I've wired it I'll start checking the connections and then assume that its dead. I might look at having it fixed cause I like the old style look.
