Yes that would be a great idea don't pay a lot of money for one if you can not find one very cheap come and see me.
You don't know a lot about motors i think we can teach you.

Some things are worth waiting for mate! P.s. I'm moving back to west pennant so I will be nice and close to be able to drop in and nag. ;)

Hi GR,

Sorry for the thread hijacking, but sign me up for a couple sets of those pistons (hot rod 998, maybe a twin cam down the road? :) )!

Just starting to contemplate my 998 rebuild, keep us posted on availability/price.

Cheers
Daniel

New to site, looking to do a rebuild soonish would be interested in these 68mm flat tops and new cams.

Provided the minister of war and finance approves.

Just out of curiosity, what's the problem with core shift in the 998 A+ block? I have one, wouldn't mine knowing what I'm up against if I rebore.

We didn't get 998A+ sold out here, the core shift problems were in the 1275A+ motors.

Just because we didn't get them factory doesn't mean they're not here, I've seen plenty of 998A+'s for sale.

But back to the question, what is the core shift problem?

Curare was concerned if it affected his 998A+, I guess I could have phrased my reply better.

The bores are not concentric in the water jackets, in most 1275A+ blocks. I am not aware of a problem in a 998A+ if you have one.

u guys crack me up u want to spend alot of money to make a small bore run like a stock 1275.

I love a tuned 998, and the parts are cheap, including blocks and cranks!

I’ll wake this thread a little! I’ll defend the tuned small bore engine, and have always done so.
Even when I have a tuned 1293c engine a couple years ago, which was very fast & reliable.
I started collecting parts 2 years ago, and gonna build a 998cc screamer this winter.
Some parts is in progress for milling or another kind of process!
Org. Balanced 998cc D-crown pistons
Teflon-buttons instead of org. circlips
Org. Balanced 998cc Con rods
STD/010 balanced 998cc Crankshaft
Pocketed block for 1275cc head
Centre main strap
Lightened flywheel
Ultra lightened backplate
Old School 649 profile camshaft
Adjustable Timing gear set
Weber 40 DCOE carb (Split Weber 40’s later)
5" inlet manifold
Mk1 cast 3 into 1 exhaust manifold
RC 40 system
25D 41032 electronic dizzy

On classic mini community’s around the world it’s the same debate: Tuned 998 VS 1275?
There is nothing wrong with that, but I'm a little bit bored of this "It’s better to buy a 1275" debate!

Let’s say you tuning a big bore engine "big time" and have the argument;
"More power for less money if you try the same with a small bore engine"
Well thats true, pure and simple! But if you want this kind of 100-110ish BHP big bore engine
reliable all the way you should invest adequate parts to reinforce your transmission (drop gears/diff/drivetrain)

If you tuning a small bore based on org. 998cc bore/stroke and have ;let’s say; 65-75ish BHP
It’s, in my opinion, not necessary to invest in expensive reinforcement transmission-parts!

Nowadays the big bore materials is very expensive and harder to find! (at least in Sweden)
But the small bore materials is easier to find for a bargain! And in my opinion own more reliability
In a tuned state!

Maybe Im a little bit philosophically! But I turn this to all those new born Classic Mini owners
who want to getting a reasonable power out of an A serie engine! You have fun anyway :)

Because he can, and I would presume we will be getting more people into this, 1275 blocks can't last forever. onya GR keep up the RnD with the little blocks.

And you can always make a choice to contribute or not. That's why forums are so awesome. They're such a source of knowledge and reading back through some of the old gold is really beneficial.

Just my thoughts.
