Thanks Doug, just doesn’t appear to be much room there. The square holes in the metal must accept a nylon plug?

Yes, there are 2x square nylon plug inserts.

I just checked on my Mk2 S.

My 4TR was attached by self-tappers straight into holes in the flitch panel - no nylon plugs.

You can see the square holes and the smaller holes above the square ones. The smaller ones match the regulator positions. Not sure how you’d use the square ones ?

I don't know if there are nylon plugs or simply self-tappers into the flitch panel.

Edit: Mark confirmed plugs

Edit again: My apologies! Ive just gone through my bag of parts and it seems that i do not have the square nylon plugs that insert into the square hole in this topic.

I know I've removed these nylon inserts from areas in the engine bay and was adamant that they were used for the mounting of the Lucas Alternator control unit....

I will take a picture

Doug,

Is there a build thread for the car in the picture you just posted??

or any other pictures showing the entire engine bay??

Regards, Mark

No build thread on here unfortunately. It's a beautiful restoration by a VMCI member. The car was at the VMCI/Watto BMC Grand Day Out in Bundoora last month.

Here's some more photos taken at the GDO in 2007. Plug leads are newer but most other items are authentic for the period. I have some more shots of other parts of the car.

It appears that the square holes are not used also on my car, only the two holes above that you have mentioned.

I took a picture of mine and you can see the dust and dirt that has accumulated around the square hole and in the depression which shows that they were not plugged up with a nylon insert.

Here is a pic of mine showing the same holes as in your picture and the the two mounting holes above for the screws.
