The plan is to get the machining (re-bore, head, cam, etc) done and assemble it myself. We've just finished building a house so money is a bit tight at the moment, and more importantly I do like the process of assembling things and getting them working. I did a very mild standard rebuild on my old Mazda (just rings, bearings and gaskets) and it ran great until I sold it. That should mean more photos for here, and many more questions too! It's not going to a be particularly quick build, but hopefully finished in the next year.. (Not that I have much to show for the last 10 months!) |

I've got a hold of a 4 sync gearbox casing. It is missing a few bits so hopefully they'll all swap over from the rod change box. Were the diff covers the same for 3 and 4 sync gearboxes? Attachment: all-photos-1328_16963561325_o.jpg

Yep same, only S ones were much different (had 1/8 bigger bush & seal). You can also use rodchange covers on remote boxes, but the LH one needs the pointy bit trimmed off its flange. |

Sorry that wasn't too clear. I should have said diff housing, the alloy bit that holds in the diff. I've got the diff side covers worked out |

Yep, still the same. They are a matched set though (gear case & diff cover). Line bored i think. |

I remember reading something about it recently. Did you have any progress getting yours done with the pudding stirrer? I like the idea of that how it looks standard, but I've never driven one with the long stick so I don't know how nice it would be? I guess you'd need an extra engine steady or two to keep it in check.. |

Danny_ has a 4 synchro remote/puddin' stirrer shift box in his Moke. It feels very good, now, but I had to build up with silver solder the tin plate's socket where the ball sits then use the die grinder and a ball stone to resize it. Then packed with molygrease. Before I did this it was like a stick in a bowl of spaghetti (worse than a worn Morris 850 shift).  Parts for the puddin' stirrer shift are rare now, and apart from John Smidt or `TheMiniMan', I don't know where you would find s/h parts. |

I think I have one kicking about. The pudding stirrer and magic wand are different housings though, one is a socket into the diff housing, the other is a socket held captive by a retaining plate. Then there's always the problem, second hand parts are just that, second hand :-/ |

I got as far as rebuilding the gearbox. I measured it all up and it all looks good. Within a couple of thou. Just waiting on some diff parts to complete the rebuild of that and I will then install it. |

How do these look? Also, will the surface rust be a problem or not? Is there anything I should measure on the old boxes before I pull them to bits?
