68Delux,
The Honda discs WILL NOT FIT inside S inward offset Contessas. Not enough room.
Only Cooper 7" or S 7.5" ones will go in there... They are designed for it.

Even if you turn the Honda discs down to less than 7.9", the caliper will still foul the wheel. Honda discs need the `normal offset' Contessa wheels (and flares...).

No you won't find spacers. They are 2 different wheels. The S offset ones the inner flange of the wheel is 20mm or more further in when mounted on car.

Oh ok got it! (sorry for being a pest, it can get really confusing for a newbie  )

So with my wheels will this fit straight in and not require flares:

You still have not provided enough information to answer your query. :)

http://www.stingrays.dk/wheels/ROHContessa.jpg

Look at this picture. Notice the distance the centre of the wheel (where the nuts fit on) is inwards from the edge of the rim. These are standard offset (not LS or S offset) 10 x 5 contessa. Sometimes called "deep dish".

If you have exactly the same rims on your car now, you will need flares to run these wheels with Cooper S disks.

If the centre is closer to the edge of the rim, you have LS rims and should be able to run S disk brakes without flares.

Check your car and report back before you reply. 8)

Sorry foe being a bit of a newbie... :(

Here is a (not so clear) pic of my actual wheels:

Image

Can you tell by the pic which type of contessa wheels they are? Do you have an example pic of the LS rims?

I looked at the car and the inner part where the nuts go onto the wheel is approx 20mm inwards from the rim of the wheel.

Yes, they ARE LS rims. :D

You must already have spacer drums all around too, judging by the way they are filling the guards. You are in luck!

You CAN fit Cooper S front disks and keep these wheels and you will not have to add flares. Keep in mind you will also need to change the rear wheel cylinders to the smaller Cooper S ones as well.

Cheers,

WOOOHOOO!!! :D :D :D

That is the best news yet!!! I will jack her up and check for the spacer drums. What do they look like compared to normal drums?

I was hoping so cause I had a look at her again and the wheels are *JUST* inside of the wheel arcs, perhaps within mere mm if not flush against the outside of the wheel arcs.

Oh you mean the brake cylinder! gosh I am such a newbie  *studying the Leyland manual*

[Edit] yes studying the parts catalogue it looks like I have the "stepped out" drums with extra bit sticking out of the middle, I will have to double check. Will report back later.

by the way, Thanks to everyone who answered my questions, you guys rock! :D

Oh well now, computers are my thing! :)

I am about as good with them as (I dare say) Dr Mini is good at minis 8)

Just use the IMG button and paste the URL of your image, click preview then continue typing! that's it! :)

Before you ask, to get your image to show you need to host it, usually through free sites like geocities or sometimes your Internet Provider gives you space on their server to upload the files as part of your account with them, thats the only real hard part...

I checked the wheels, they are only 20mm or less inwards from the outer rim of the wheel. I also looked at the drums, they stick out in the middle by roughly 1.5 to 2 inches.

So for sure I have LS Contessas?

They look like it to me too.
To be sure, stick a tape measure inside the wheel, measure from the mounting flange to theextreme inside edge of rim, and post the dimension here.
