If you're handy and have access to a TIG, a grinder, and a dremel you can easily grind a suitably scrounged piece of metal to fit snug in the end of the cam. Then TIG it in being careful not to overheat the cam. Using whatever method you like - Find the centre of the cam on the plate and use this to scribe a line that effectively splits the end of the cam in two. Then using this line as a reference you can layout the cutout for a spade drive and cut it out very carefully with the dremel. |

dr mini has them made and they're sold through Mini King and others. I have one of his in my cam, it just sits in place, not welded |

Various Australian suppliers have them. Here's a couple, but also check the other businesses that may be closer to you (suggest you add your location to your user profile ). http://www.classicmotoring.net.au/cmos/ ... ts_id=1239 http://minikingdomonline.com.au/product ... adapter-2/ or http://minikingdomonline.com.au/product ... e-adapter/ http://minisport.com.au/ This was to be a link to the part in the Minisport shop but I can't find it at the moment. Other businesses to try are here - viewtopic.php?f=41&t=83593 |

Forgot to mention; you are no doubt aware there are two types - one for a star drive oil pump and another for spade drive pump? |

Wakes01 wrote: I have no oil pump yet, fresh rebuild with a re13 cam i got from minirich. any advantage to either pump? Well the laser cut steel `slot drive' spiders came about because the original splined bore ones stopped being made years ago. To set up and cut splines in a limited quantity was cost prohibitive, whether broached or wire-cut. Slot drive pumps are standard on the A+ (UK) motors, they are a later design. Cheap to buy from all the usual outlets here or UK. Description is `1275A+ slot drive oil pump'. Here's a pic with the spider on it- [edit] you can also machine down the slot drive adaptor to permanently convert a pin drive cam. Like this- note these 3 ears still need to be chamfered then TIG welded in: |

The star drive pump is the pump that was used with the "spider drive" cam with a little adaptor. You could also modify your cam as I described above to run a spade drive pump. I've seen good and bad star and spade drive pumps from the same manufacturers - I'd advise checking the pump to make sure it is serviceable before fitting. Therefore best bet it to buy from an Australian retailer incase you need to chase up a warranty/exchange. |

Post subject: | Re: Spider drive adapter |
One problem with current steel backed pumps either spade/slot drive, or the splined spider drive is the chamfer on the body is too small. It can foul the blocks recess's radius and prevent the gasket sealing. Cure = grind or sand a bigger chamfer on it before fitting. |
