Thread revival.

I have been measuring two engines back to back. A stock 1100s and my Moke block with AEG480 crank with the stuffed thrust bearings. I can confirm ^^^ above about the thrust bearing thickness.

Can anyone tell me how I can source a set of thrusts that are the correct thickness to suit an 'S' crank in a non-S block? I know that posts above say to get std ones ground. Where in Brisbane should I go for this? Do any of the shops offer these as an off the shelf part?

The stuffed set I have pulled out had been ground and then a couple had been sanded a bit here and there to get them right. I don't know what caused them to be stuffed. Nobody has come up with any suggestions on my build thread. Probably just crap in the oil galleries. All the measuring I have done suggests they would have had very close to 0.005" end float before the bearings picked up metal.

As soon as I get replacement thrusts I can reassemble this engine.

Thanks,

M

Take a new set of std thrust bearings to a toolroom, they can grind them as a set on the surface grinder using their magnetic chuck.
Note:
1. make sure the washers are flat to start with.
2. Only grind the backing, not the copper face.
3. Put a sheet steel strip on the chuck each side of the washers, so they are held more securely.

I used to do my own this way, back when I had a job..!
