I can confirm it is not out of a Mini K. Probably out of a 74/75 Leyland Mini. |

Thanks Morris , prompt and precise ... Love it . Could I ask if it is a 1100 engine and whether the gearbox may well be 4 synchro? |

It's an 1100, one of the last Australian assembled 1100s. The box looks like a rod-change, so yes 4 syncro. |

Got the crank back and it ok , no cracks. Can anyone enlighten me please : How does one determine how much to shave off the journals (if at all) ? There is a ridge down the middle journal but the other feel quite smooth apart from surface rust . Is this factory balanced or are those machine marks from maybe a previous build? Many thanks : learning as I go |

Measure the diameter of the main and crankpin journals. Std sizes (nominal)- Crankpins 1.625" Mains 1.750" Standard regrinds are to std -.010" -.020", .030", or -.040". If a 1098, I'd not grind it more than .020", and make sure they put a nice radius in the corners, as large as possible. The notches you see in the crank were put there when made, to hold the crank for machining & grinding. The grind marks on the webs are factory balancing, or have been done since. The centre main often wears more than the other two. |

So sorry for the modern metric but : Crankpins 41.1-41.4mm Mains 44.4 I'll see if I can translate Update: more consistent readings indicate 41.2 on the crankpins So I guess this is a standard grind crank yippee . Maybe just 10 thou needed to clean up ? Or is it possible to run with it ?? Would save a heap of dollars on a grind :p |

If you measured accurately it is now more than .003" wear. Original size limits were 1.6254-1.6259" diameter. = 41.28-41.29mm. At .001" wear, taper or ovality (absolute max) from original size it's no good. I'd get it reground at less than this. You can't run it like that. A -.010" regrind will clean it up like a new one |

last grank grind i had done was only $150, so you don't really save much compared to lunching the engine and starting again because you "saved" money on a regrind. |

Been testing out me new bead blasting cab. Still tweeting the settings but running AD size at about 80 psi ... Will crank it a little more to see if it changes speed ... In other head news: 25.4 exhaust 29.2 inlet It seems both ports have been seated |

Just watch out for those pink manifold gaskets - they can have asbestos in them |
