I run 11.0:1 with my 282. I would not run more with 98 unleaded fuel in a road car.

Would the 282 camshaft be happy with standard lift rockers? Also would I have to be concerned about what valve springs I have? (as far as I know they are standard Cooper S ones)

Thanks

Michael

Standard rockers OK. Mine had standard rockers, head work, etc etc, made 127 hp and 114 ftlb.

Valve springs you will need to upgrade for sure.

Dyno results for mine and drmini here http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44857

My engine build thread here http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=31567

I use C-AEA526 valve springs. They are good for 8000 rpm and .497" lift with 1.5 rockers.
Stock Cooper S ones I would not use, you run the risk of spring bind, and rpm limit will be low.

+ 1 for the C-AEA526 springs. They got rid of the valve bounce in my last car. I got mine from Karcraft. My cam had an 8mm lobe with 1.5 rockers - so about 0.472" lift.

Is it worth a try with what I've got or will I for sure have a problem? I don't intend to go beyond 7000 rpm...

If you run a high lift cam with 1.5 ratio rockers you need to make sure you have plenty of clearance between the spring coils at full lift "crush". The C-AEA526 springs have one less coil so there would be little chance of these binding up. They are not that expensive. http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/C-AEA526.aspx

how do you run an in car VE check to determine if you have the right cam for your purpose?

Springs soften with age and heat (they get shorter), do yourself a favour and change those springs.
1275 Cooper S gave peak power @ 5800 rpm, 7000 with stock springs would be pushing it even if the springs are new.

With the RE282 you will definitely need to uprate the springs. They are relatively inexpensive compared to the damage you will do if you don't get them.

I've just ordered a RE282 camshaft and the CE526 springs so the project is going ahead after much humming and ahring! You only live once after all..
Anyone got a set of 1.5:1 rockers for sale?
Thanks
Mikal

Anyone know what the rocker ratio is with the sintered A+ type rocker?
Thanks

Michael

Here are a few of the rocker ratios. Info was taken from various Ausmini forum posts and google.

You can fit offset bushes to the pressed steel or Cooper S forged rockers for a little more lift. Can't do this with sintered ones, they are unbushed.

Oh dear, I appear to have the 1.18:1 ratio ones. Guess they're no good for my purposes...
Open to suggestions..

Thanks

Mikal
