310 sterling, oops. There goes my budget. By the way, how many rpm is a standard 1100S bottom end safe for?

These are the ones i am putting in my Cooper S. I wanted to bush my S forged rockers but this is easier and will give more lift than the offset bushes. http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/C-AHT436.aspx

Be aware of 2 things re these particular rockers:
1. They are now cast iron, not forged. I had to machine a set on top so the nuts sat flat, the swarf produced was cast iron, not steel.
2. Check the adjusters are not bent by turning them and watching the ball end. I have had 2 sets of these rockers recently, ALL adjusters were bent. Replaced them with a set from sintered rockers. Or use S ones.

Thanks. How long have these been cast? I bought mine over 12 months ago.

Hi Doc,

If I get a set of those and replace the adjusters with what I have I should be right? I'm getting nervous now....

If the motor is fresh and the crank not cracked, 7000.
Mine has a 50 year old EN40B S crank in it, I electronically limit it at 7500 now, I used to use 8000 years ago.

Yeah just check the nuts sit flat on top, one set I bought didn't.
Replace the adjusters and should be fine for road use.

miniDave's 1330 rally motor runs these (cast) rockers for years and they are still working fine.

I have a set of the original (forged) MSC 1.5 ones on mine, they have done over 50,000 miles and are fine. So are the bronze guides still.

Is the 1100S bottom end limit really 7000 rpm? Is there any point going for the RE282 cam in that case? Not that I was planning on exceeding 7k really. I just assumed the bottom end would cope with it...

I have a set of the LDX ones, yet to fit, recheck carb tune and run. http://www.med-engineering.co.uk/products/cylinder-heads/rockers/med-1-5-ldx-rockers. They are nice bit of gear, and i am pretty sure that they are worth 10hp 500 rpm higher based on willy's dyno results. I had thought i bought them a lot cheaper than 310 quid though, maybe they were on special.

cheers
michael

This is basically a crank limitation, and i am not 100% sure that you can't go a bit higher rpm. It is not going to make a 9000rpm race motor for example.

Mine is a a 1275LS bottom end which is basically the same crank as the 1100S and whilst i nominally limit to 7000rpm, the RE282 has be fine.

The big danger is if you change down too early and over rev it, the crank will crack.

cheers
michael

The more you rev a 1275, the shorter its life will be. The blokes with the 9000+rpm $BIG Nb motors rebuild them often. You don't want to have to do this for a road car.
The RE282 cam in mine gives peak power at 7000-7200rpm, on the road I seldom go that far. Unless... :)
