Hi guys,
Does anyone happen to know how much lateral float the output shafts (Hardie Spicer) from the diff should have. I have just upgraded the diff centre with a cross pin diff and used a slightly thicker fibre shim on both sides to close up the lateral movement in the gear and output shaft. There is a few thou movement in the shafts now but wanted to ensure that there shouldn't be more or if there is a specific clearance. When I disassembled the old diff the fibre washer was in pieces so I don't have benchmark for what it should be.
Any advice would be appreciated.

If it spins with a few thou clearance it is fine.
Early boxes up to 1969? used bronze washers there, they don't break up like the fibre ones do. If ya find em, grab em.

Thanks Doc

Can they be bought new or would you have to rob an old box?

Never seen em new, since the 70s.
Pretty sure all the old 3 synchro boxes had the bronze washers.

John Smidt might have some s/h ones, ring and check.
