Not my idea but Robs.Buy 1/4 inch chrome moly tubing 4130 stock.
Cut it to length and use the bmc pushrod ends with a bit of rod turned down to Loctite 601 into the tube.
Mini pushrods homespun for any length.
Any downsides, ideas .A sensible post from me??

Or buy the aftermarket ends for 5/16 and turn them down to fit the 1/4 tube
I have a feeling the original BMC will be harder.
Manton have the 1/4 pushrods but no mini option with ends.
And yes it helps when you have fitter machinist skills

No eye deer Ian...cept tube is likely to be more prone to bending than rod...

It's about cross section and diameter vs wall thickness. 4130 has great strength to weigh properties so you can make the cross section smaller, just don't ask me how much, and if the dia is too large and the wall too thin they may be prone to crushing like a beer can.

Also also 4130 heat treats well so you can have this done to alleviate bending.

do a bit of research on bending of thin walled cylindrical columns in compression on the interwebs and i am sure you will find the info you are looking for. I used to know how to do all of that stuff when i did my degree, but 20 years of doing other kinds of engineering have expunged it from my memory.

cheers
