These are the first things I would re-check...maintenance induced faults are quite common

I couldn't warm the engine up so couldn't get a proper reading but 1 and 4 around 150 and 2 and 3 around 50

I wouldn't have bothered with a compression test, I wouldn't have even put my thumb over the plug holes

It's a 1275, when they blow headgaskets it's between #2 and #3, if the engine runs badly all of a sudden and sounds like a tractor, and you can pull the leads off #2 and #3 without it making any difference, it's a head gasket

a couple of months ago I found a bloke I know with an 1100 stopped by the side of the road, it had stopped for another reason but was running like crap and sounded like a tractor, pull #3 and #4 off without making a difference (#1-#2 and #3-#4 are the weak point on small bores) - I didn't bother with a compression test - blown head gasket... it had even eroded the head between the chambers

So the winner of the problem diagnosis competition is Simon. Well done. A chocolate Freddo frog is on its way to you. :)

Your left nut is safe, at least for another day.

Looking at that brown crud, it appears that a good flush of the cooling system won't go astray either. That gasket hasn't seen daylight for years.

Interesting enough I just replaced the radiator the water pump and thermostat and at the time I did a flush But something told me there may have been a blockage somewhere when checking with the heat gun it was inconstant.

My coolant stayed green for a few weeks then one day it changed to brown (clog gone)

I said to my wife a week earlier i think the head gasket is about to go as i saw that brown water marks down the front of the engine

I reckon you should have the head refaced, and after you've cleaned all remnants of the gasket off the block, get a nice clean (well oiled) oilstone and gently clean the top of the block with it - randomly go all over in all directions - figure eights in different directions etc. etc. You should be able to get it shiny all over including between #2 and #3 where it's dark right now
