Random question,

Will a k1100 16v head work on a small bore if you use 68mm Pistons?

Seeing as they both run 1275 head gaskets?

I don't know but I would guess yes. Pistons may need valve clearance but I think it would be a fun little engine.

A follow up question:
What is a safe rev limit of a 68mm 998 crank engine?

the very first one.... I remember reading about it in the late 90's I reckon...

Quote:
The engine configuration is a thick cored 850 block offset bored to 68mm, stroked with a 998 crank; using 'S' rods.

yes will be fine,,, however,,, you will need to pay attention to the cyl head fittment

if you shuffle the cyl head over to the dist/alt side of the block a few mm, then you will have less drama with the new head stud holes interfering with the side plate area & water jacket joining,
(it`s a bit hard to explain typing it really)

if you imagine fitting the cyl head in the spot that the "usual" 3 front head stud holes line up to,,, then when drilling the rear (exh side) stud holes you will most certainly break into """Both""" the side plate area """&""" the water jacket
it`s not a pretty thing really
yes, we`ve done it :-)

so we have shuffled the head across a few mm toward the alternator/distributor side & off-set the bore (& oversized) to align with the cyl head chambers,,, & off course you`ll need to bung up """all""" the head stud holes & re-drill them """all""" to cater for the new position

i can show you way more easier than describing it tho :-)

but yes once that lot is sorted then fly-cut pistons, sort your compression ratio etc & away you go

we have our own twinky head gaskets in stock for these

oh & we`ve had small bore engines screaming to 8000 rpms with these heads fitted :-)
