Thanks

never seen one, not even sure of a convenient place to put it where you could get a pivot point high enough without going through the floor - wouldn't be an issue in a moke?

going for a bench seat conversion??

does it need to ratchet? if not then just cut the existing one and re-send at the correct angle.

Thanks guys
The problem is that I can't reach the handbrake with a full harness seat belt fitted. And it is a Moke with a low seating position. It does need a ratchet. Upright hydraulic handbrakes are available but I need a mechanical one.
Thanks

Presumably we're talking 'khanas ...?? Just weld a vertical section on top of the existing lever. Choose the length of the addition to give the mechanical advantage you require...

Maybe replace the locking mechanism with a fly-off catch. Just remember to release the handbrake before belting up :)

Cheers, Ian

Brings back memories of modifying the standard handbrake in my rally Mini to fly-off. I think it just reversing the pawl isn't it?

Apologies for detour in this thread.

Thanks Ian
At present I have a two handled 'fly off' style handbrake but would like to be able to release it with the harness fitted.
Thanks for the input

Yes, sort of. You weld a bit to the other end of pawl to attach the rod to so it's spring loaded off not on.
I modded one 10 years ago, it not on my car yet as I've not got a round tuit. ;)

Fly off handbrakes are excellent, I have one. Great anti theft device, no one can work it out until you show them. Ooops, revealed one of my theft prevention measures...!

just out of curiosity, is that a restriction in your club/class ?

normally the restriction is that the handbrake must work evenly on both wheels, but the actuation method is free

No it is not a regulation for competition but I don't have the space for an hydraulic handbrake and I don't want to re engineer the car for its use (for rego )

fair enough...

I've been trying to remember what car I've driven that had a vertical handbrake. It had a squeeze type handle near the gearstick...

edit: no, wasn't like a falcon, it was a handle that poked straight up from the floor - it might have been a split screen Kombi

I think the splittys came straight up out of the floor but had a button on the top like a normal horizontal lever.

I have tried a 37 Fiat Topolino but the ratchet is below the floor and I am very tight in that area with the gearshift (rod type ) and exhaust.

mount it above the floor in a little box above the tunnel?

invert it and make it a push away instead of pull towards?
