Hi There, apologies if this is a thread somewhere else but I couldn't find it.
I am changing over my 71 mini K from 12inch wheels to 10inch.
My query being a novice is how should I go about lowering the car to get a good gal
Between top of tyre and body once I put the new wheels on? Suggestions or links welcome
Thnkyou
Jason

Is the suspension still hydro or is it now dry?

The overall diameter of 12" tyres and 10" tyres are essentially the same.

yeah, what Tim said - need to know what type of suspension your car has. Mini K left the factory with hydrolastic (fluid) suspension so lowering it is a matter of draining a tiny bit of fluid out using the tyre valves at the back of the rear subframe, if it's been converted to dry suspension then it may or may not be adjustable

Going by the maths, a 165x60x12 is 50.3cm diameter, a 165x70x10 is 48.5cm diameter, so half the difference is how much gap you'll gain between the tyre and wheel arch - 9mm?

You can get a "Hi-Lo" kit like this which adjusts the height of the front and rear suspension. I bought this kit and raised the front of the car up to get some decent suspension travel so it doesn't bottom out over bumps..

If not it is reasonably straight forward. There might be a guide on this forum, but I can't find it at the moment.

There's a few guides online.
fitting Hi-Los involves an almost complete disassembly of both front and rear suspension, at least that's how I would do it. That's not that hard really, but takes a while and your bound to find other things need replacing at the same time. You also need a cone compressor for the front, and a good set of tools

Is the mini suspension particularly high as it is now? Most are already "lowered" from sagging cones anyway

*Edit*
Apparently you might be able to wedge the old trumpets out, that the HiLos replace, without removing the front or rear suspension arms, but I remember them being a pretty tight fit to assemble, so I'm not that convinced
