Hi everyone,

just curious if anyone is currently running 34mm chokes in a 45 dcoe/dellorto on a hottish 1275?

I don't drive the mini (due to my vision impairment), so my fiancee is sole driver. It was suggested I use 34mm chokes to make it more driveable down low.

Just wanted to know if anyone runs this size with still decent performance results?

Cheers

I tested 34 and 36 chokes in my 45 DCOE 13 on my last car. Road / race cam & 1.5 rockers. There was a slight difference in top end with the 36 but i couldn't really feel a difference low down. Go the 34.

Thanks! Did you find the car noticeably more driveable with the 34 chokes compared with 36?

I stayed with the 36mm chokes because they suited my engine setup better. Bottom end felt the same, top end went a little harder.

My 1310 had 34 chokes in the 45 Dellorto when I got it. After rebuilding, fitting a bigger cam and valves, and 1.5 rockers etc, I ran 38s in it for a few years. Top end was great but not torque. So I went down to 36s. With my 282 cam they are great.
I suggest try 34s, with the 266SS cam you will only notice the 36s benefits above 6000 rpm approx. 34s better down low.

I will start by saying i am sure a warm 1275 will run fine on 34 mm chokes. However I have an interesting story about my Weber installation journey.
As a youngster I had a mk 1 cooper s and at the time was running twin 11/2 SU's on an opened out standard manifold. Engine was 1310, approx 10.5
to 1 comp, lumpy Wade cam home ported mk 1 head and LCB. Went well and had great midrange. At the time in Melbourne you could buy a 45 mm
Weber and manifold with smart rose jointed overhead linkages quite cheaply. I found one of these set ups even cheaper secondhand. Went to buy this
setup and was even more chuffed to be told that the sellers engine was very similar to mine including same cam. Owner did some club sprints.
Eventually fitted to car - so excited. Drove down the road, engine had probably lost about 20 horsepower !! I knew nothing about Weber carbs but
eventually came to learn that it was jetted for a standard 1275 - 34 mm chokes and very small main jets and air correctors. At the time Motor
Improvements would give you the settings for a similar engine they had jetted if you got the right person. I spent quite a lot of money on jets etc
from them. The guy I dealt with said come down one Sat morning and I'll take it for a drive. He drove it, came back and said " just leave it how it
is - it drives great ". I was so happy. This was on 36 mm chokes and the rest of the settings quite different to when purchased.

Good old Motor Improvements in South Melbourne, run by Brian Sampson I seem to remember. Had my Cooper S tuned there a few times. Also at Scottune in North Melbourne (Ric Scott).

Insert her emoticon of a smiling face with tears of joy being wiped away.

I like 36mm chokes in a 45 like yours. However as you can't drive, and your wife is the sole pilot, I would use 34s.
36s don't like the throttle being planted hard at idle. ;)

Was that the Motor Improvements that was on Nepean Hwy and moved to Moorabbin (now closed down) I wonder? Very nice people and service... The son B, is quite a talented formula ford driver if it's the place I'm thinking of. They built my 1293, still going very nicely...
