Hi Guys I have a 76 clubby that's jumping out of 2nd and 4th , not always on the overrun , the box was rebuilt only about 2000kms ago . the car has fabricated top engine steadies as its running a Nissan 16v head , is it possible that the position of the motor is wrong and it's putting pressure on the rod change as its ok in 1st and 3rd and it feels like its not going far enough in on 2nd and 4th . If you just lightly hold the gear stick with one finger it stops doing it , also could it possibly be the detent spring behind the side housing .

Detent has no effect on holding it in gear. Check the rubber boot at the diff where the rod goes through the new aftermarket ones are to thick and hard and will act as a spring pushing the rod back out of engagement you can cut a section out to shorten it. also check that when the seal was fitted that the old one was not left in the case by mistake. If it has the updated after market seal with the bush fitted this will also cause it to fall out of gear.

+1 on that, I had exact same problem. Also check shifttment isn't to far back, causes lever to press on boot surround.
