So, back in May last year I purchased a black Leyland mini that had a mildly warmed up 1275, 1.5 su, set of extractors and a points dizzy.

After a few weekends in dad's shed I managed to get a rwc for it and headed off to VicRoads for that long winded debate on how " it's a trailer, boat engine, never been on the system"
Apart from the young lass announcing " you don't have a vin so you'll have to apply for one " it was pretty plain sailing after the " old bloke" asked " what's the problem? "
A quick look at the mini and yup " well, it's an old car so it won't have a vin, just take his money and stamp the paperwork and read this this and this .....lol"
With nearly $1200 lighter in the pocket it was a very entertaining ride over the the east as I have not owned a running mini for almost 10 years ... many grins and giggles :)

Fast forward about 3 months to where I was cruising the inter webs .....
After talking with a mate { over a scotch or many } it was decided that running something like a megajolt would be a good idea and maybe looking into some form of efi. And an idea was hatched.

First on the list was a trigger wheel and crank sensor, then a 50mm twin 440cc injector throttle body and a Microsquirt. Over the Christmas break from work I pulled the power unit to fix a few leaks, change the cam and fit the trigger wheel.
My drinking cohort promptly rocked up and spent a wee bit of time sorting the " new" electrics, muttering " bloody 2 fuse boxes should never been used, should be replaced, my Alfa has many fuses"
After a quick blast { tuning session} on the Ring Rd I was set to never have a points related drama ever again :)

With a bit more research I decided that a 7 port with itb's would be easier to tune than a 5 port running a wet manifold, siamesed ports and all that charge robbing malarky. Off to the interwebs .... click click .....10 days later I have a 7 port alloy head thingy.

fast forward a bit .... so using an 1100S block bored to 73.5mm and dry decked, A+ crank and rods, new cam, light flywheel and a pair of 40mm dcoe pattern throttle bodies, Brownrigg extractors and a MED water pump plate to assist with the Davies Craig ewp80 and 11in thermo fan.

As for fuel delivery I'm using a " retrofit in tank pump kit" from the US. It's a Walbro 190 pump mounted into a 35lt tank, the only thing that I really had to do was extend the pump bracket by 3 in so it would reach the bottom of the tank.

I'm hopeing that over the next 5 days I can get the rest of the things sorted, rad mount, top and bottom hoses, wiring and o2 sensor and maybe just maybe it will make all the noises of an engine coming into life by mid next week.

Great work!
I sometimes wish that I had gone the EFI route on my 7 port project.

Well ... what a full on day yesterday was. My mate who was in charge of the sparks was flat out from 12 till 11:30 pm so I wore him out :)

We have 75 psi oil pressure, which on running in oil is a tad too high but I can wind that back a bit with the adjustable relief valve.

Engine bay has had a new fuse box and a general tidy up of under bonnet wiring, fuel system had a few leaks but sorted now. My rad cracked the bottom hose outlet so I'l have to rejig the " new " rad mounts to hold another rad and then that will also mean the throttle linkage will need to be remade ...more shed time :)

I have a mystery oil leak down the front of the engine but with the rad out that should be easy to spot and hopefully fix.

The thermo fan and ewp80 works well, the controller gives my outside temp and engine temp + runs for 3 mins after shut down. After running in the cam it was sitting at 92 deg and with the pump / fan running after shutdown the temp dropped to 77 deg so I call that a win.

It's booked in for it's first tune in 10 days .......so now excuse me for a bit while I go do my happy dance :D

Dropped it off at the tuners on Sat and it get it's dyno runs tomorrow ......I will either get a phone call to say " bring a trailer coz it flew apart " or come get it bring cash or and here's the "sheet" for pub bragging rights.

Currently suffering through separation anxiety.

I reckon with a flat torque curve and a few banana's it should be quite fun and entertaining to drive.

Hope to have it back before the weekend.

Change to normal oil before you do anything with the relief valve  :D

Well done :!:

yes 78 at the treads :)
oil gets changed tomorrow and the grill goes back in, after a good run I'll adjust the pressure as needed. Currently it's over 80 psi { gauge max's out at 80 } and 60 at idle after a good stint on a fwy. The ewp, 11 in fan and Morrie 1100 rad seem to be a good match, doesn't get hot in traffic or after a blast but a bit of summer testing and we'll soon see if it's all up to the job.
I have seen somewhere on the interwebs a temp sender adaptor that goes on the rear of the head between the head and the heater take off .... but now I can't find it. If anyone knows what I'm looking for and where to get one I'd appreciate it.

Cheers for now, I have some torque steer to get used to :)
