What cams are guys running in strokers .I understand and have seen a 544 in an 1100 then got put in a 1420 stroker and the 544 became a pussy.
The 1100 was cranky and aggressive and went well The stroker was very tame unlike my mate who blew it up.
It ended up with a gudgeon came out and big score up and down one cylinder .I think the Main caps would be the only thing salvageable out of that motor maybe three rods and a 9fxey number. It ran Mazda pistons way back near 40 years

I had a Kent MD296SP in my 1430 stroker. Had heaps of low down torque, very tractable but that was also due to the 40mm DCOE. A big engine needs a big cam, but there are better cams around now.

One of GRs cams has gone into it now that is more suited to the new 7 port also now on it.

My small knowledge is that bigger cams are tamed in big engines.
A wider LCA tames overlap and increases low end performance.
Higher rocker ratio make cam bigger and increase all wear factors.
Lots of aftermarket cams use a 106 LCA where bmc did not.
The 544 is the only one I recall and it was cloned by Waggot as the 238

Trying to give you at least something to look up as interest, from an older cam pattern
I have an aptfast scatter pattern in a 1360 ( not stroker though) VP4 ( vintage race 296sp @ 105.5degrees. ) and i like it. Not sure if the scatter pattern is as wonderful as it was made out to be and actually think single pattern would be okay and modern grinds probably better low end grunt - but these interestingly have different lift on 1 and 4--- i think their 286 would be ideal for a stroker (VP3). this thing of mine ( built by a clever friend..not me) is probably too temperamental for any sort of traffic, but it aquits itself well on the race track and on weekend cruises. ( 3.7 FD and currently 1.5 rockers and 45weber but has been on 1.3 rockers and twin SUs). As a plug , the APTfast lifters with a harder rockwell score would be on my list if doing a rebuild on an aggressive cam. Cheers Darryl

Thanks guys The common view on cams is that you should look at the degrees at 050 lift as a reference to compare cams.
Advertised duration eg 276 286 kent etc can be confusing as is it measured at 020 thou lift or something different.
Ive researched some of what GR gives and he explains cams with small advertised duration but become bigger at 50 thou.
Lots to learn here .Is this high acceleration rate that Vizard spoke of that was with Kent and VP profiles.

I run the RE282 and 1.5 rockers in my 1360, and it's been great.
My 1412 stroker had an RE13 and 1.4 Corolla rockers, it went hard, made 112 ft/lb of torque with a single HS6 on Graham's manifold.
But I reckon the RE282 would be even better in that big a motor.

My 1411 has the RE282 and standard rockers to make 114 ft/lb. But also has more than 100 ft/lb all the way from 2000rpm to 7000rpm (from memory - for exact figures see my dyno post on here somewhere). Sticking 1.5:1 rockers will shift that up in the rev range for more power but unlikely to to see increase in max torque.

GR has a newer cam with similar specs (the RE282 master was lost - Kev's (drminiin aust), mine and the one fitted to willy's motor that he sold remain), but he reckons even more betterer down low. Don't recall the number - he will be able to advise directly.

Graham told me he cut another 282 master from an unworn 282 cam he borrowed. Not sure if he tickled the profile further.
Peak power of my 1360 with the 282 + 1.5 rockers was at 7000-7200 on MRC's dyno at Castle Hill 10 years ago. Was running 38 chokes, now has 36.

Hi Guy's,

We've just fitted an SW8 grind from Swiftune in our 1380 (still running it in with a soft advance curve...) and it feels very strong and snappy in both 2nd and 3rd gear's with a 3.44 diff ratio.
