Post subject:  High Lift Rockets - What clearances to run?

Hi,

I've been reading up on 1.5 lift rockers and I'm considering giving a set a go on my Moke for a bit more mid-top end.

The Moke is running a 1275 out to 1301cc and has a very mild Wade 112 cam spec, ground by Clive Cams.

One thing I am not sure about is what clearances I would need to run. I read that 1.5 rockers need 0.003" more clearance than stock. The Wade cam already runs a wider clearance than stock. (I can't remember what exactly, I have them at home.)

So, would I need to add another 3 thou to the Wade camshaft recommended clearances?

Thanks,

Yes add 3 thou more. The 3 thou allows for the extra heat expansion rate when using the 1.5 ratio.
This explains it pretty well. https://www.minimania.com/Valve_train__ ... ces__lash_

Sounds like Clive Cams are well aware of what clearance to use...so...try their recommendations and see how she revs and whether she is happy???

Should run .003" more than what is recommended for the cam with stock 1.2 rockers. If you don't, the cam lobe to lifter clearance is less than designed. This can lose you torque.
Be guided by the cam supplier.

For example my RE282 cam with 1.5 rockers runs .022" inlets and .024" on exhausts, because that's what Graham Russell the designer recommends.
