Hi all,

I need to consult the brains trust about camshaft choice for a 1380 injected 7-port?
The Swiftune SW10 or SW23 was recommended by Specialist Components. Just wondering if there's any other recommendations?

I have a set of 7cc Omega cast pistons which should net 11.25:1 static compression with the 7-port head.

I know EFI does a lot to tame aggressive cam profiles. It's a weekend car so it can afford to be a bit more of a pig, but I don't want to go too far with it.

They recommended the RE13PP but I ended up getting a custom cam spec’d

The SW23 sounds a bit to much for a road car for me. Their website has the power range being between 4500 to 8000 RPM. Could be a pig to pull away from standstill in the traffic.
I run the 286 which I believe is similar to the SW10. Really likes 3000 RPM to pull away from standstill. This would partly be due to my carbies being too big - twin 1&3/4 but they look good. So with the correct size carbies or fuel injection it should pull away from 2500 like they state.
My compression ratio is 10.5:1 which works well with 98 pump fuel. I find this a good combination on the 5 port and not to wild for a weekend car.
Hopefully your target of 11.25 static is not too high for pump fuel. It may work on your 7 port combination but I would be doing more research on this.

I have been using Mini Spares Evolution 0001 cam, sometimes called their fast road cam, for some time in my Cooper S as well as fitting the same to my 997 Cooper motor which is not on the road yet. As well a couple of other Cooper S motors I have been involved with recently were fitted with the same cam.
This cam has been developed to give good response through the range without being too much of a pig at low revs, my experience is exactly these characteristics. One benefit of the cam is that it is machined from a new blank not a reground unit.
My Cooper S engine is + 0.060", ported, LCB with ceramic coating, electronic ignition with the advance curves modified and 1.3 roller rockers. You can not use 1.5 rockers as the cam as sufficient lift already built into the lobes being new.
When I first ran the engine fitted with twin HS2 carbs I found that it appeared to be suffering once 3500 rpm reached. I then fitted twin HS4 carbs to SPO41 spec and a result was dramatic. The engine now revs freely, particularly past 2500 at the point the cam and distributor come into action. At low revs around town the car is still very driveable but loves to get on the open road and above 3500 rpm.
I found a problem early on following after fitting the HS4 carbs of plugs fouling which was solved by installing iridium plugs.
On the last Rylstone Classic the car performed extremely well and even though was driven quite hard returned 33 mpg or 8.5 litres/100k.
Hope this helps

The research that I’ve done on other forums have said you can go a wilder cam. Also having a cam spec’d for a non scavenging head makes a difference. I mean it is totally different from a 5 port. It’s almost a mute point talking about cams in a completely different head design and then to top it off, it not being injected.

This is my head which is being added to a new block as we speak. I’ll be running a Link G4X Monsoon.

I went custom spec billet camshaft. Power on the run in tune netted 120hp at the wheels with no correction factor. I can tell you it hauls ass on a the run in tune.

Slightly OT, but what oil dipstick arrangement are people using?
