I need a cam position sensor for my sequential ignition... This is the solution. It's originally off a Ford Falcon (one before the AU I think). A friend machined it down to fit the Mini, all metal off! Shaft is shortened and drilled and the original dizzy dog drive refitted as the shafts are the same diametre.

Looks good.
Do you still use a crank shaft trigger wheel sensor for accurate timing for ignition (and fuel) or will this do the whole job?

No this only does the cam position so I will need a crank trigger as well...

Which is my next task! I have a timing belt kit and want the trigger wheel behind the fan belt...

Med damper and wheel with bracket made from angle iron.
I think Med also do the bracket.
Can remove the fan belt without interfering with the sensor.

Isn’t the cam angle crank angle the same thing. After all, the cam is driven from the crank ?

I can't find the video now but if I remember correctly it said you can get a more precise and cleaner signal from the crank, the cam is used to determine tdc compression from tdc exhaust.
Cleaner signal because it's not subject to a belt or chain flapping around, I this this may have been more in relation to twin cam heads and timing belts rather than chains but I expect someone can clarify that.

Yup that's pretty much it! Cam position sensor wheel only has one "tooth" and it's big! Crank sensor wheel has a whole row of them, Ford us 36 teeth (well 35 as TDC is missing so the ECU can work things out). I did look at making a housing that had both but to get a crank position sensor in that had big enough teeth (about 5mm. by 5mm. for a normal hall sensor) it had to be the size of a crank pully...

Then I found this sensor that was neat and very easy to modify to fit the Min.

Thanks for the clarification.

Crank goes round twice for one cam rotation. So, a cam angle sensor tells the system which piston upstroke is compression, and which is exhaust.

Many modern motors don't run a cam sensor, as they use wasted spark, ie they fire the plug during both compression and exhaust strokes.
