yeah I'm thinking thats the easiest bet. Are there aftermarket options though or do I just have to wait to find a used longer ratio one? although I've only checked oz.minispor they seem to only have same ratio alternatives to standard

If you put a 3.1 diff in with stock Mini K or Oz rodchange gears, it make 1-2-3 the same as a Cooper S, but with a taller 4th for cruising.
Best of both worlds.
And 1/2 the price of fitting a Cooper S 1st motion shaft and cluster gear.

There are second hand ones here, you might also be lucky to find one in Australia already.

I have straight cut gear set and drops in my car and normal driving (with a good bit of insulation) is fine when I only had insulation under the carpet on longer trips it got a little annoying at highway speeds, added some dynamat like material and padding on the firewall and MUCH better and no issues on a long highway cruise either, plus the close ratio's are just awesome and keeps the turbo spinning well.
