Same as my Cooper S engine :D

The pistons have the old Mahle symbol on top and are .020 thou oversize.

Were these a forged? or good piston back in the day compared to now?

I had my moke engine rebuilt last year and my mate used these.

So still available new. Not sure if mine are forged or not

Cheers for that,

Yeah Mahle have been around for a long time.
The Mahle pistons in mine seem to be an older Mahle piston from the stamping on top. I tried searching all over the internet for any info on these particular pistons with no luck.

Maybe some knowledgable people on here might know more about the older Mahle 1275 pistons and wether they were forged or not and any good?

Mahle 1275 flat tops were forged. They were a good light piston. I ran them in my road 1310 for years, until one didn't like 8500 rpm anymore at wakefield park, and started to tap.
Yes I drove it home. ;)

Thanks Doc!

My Mahle pistons seem to have the flat edge ring around the outside and slight concave in the centre. I say "seem" as i had a camera scope down the spark plug hole looking into the bore and seem to slightly notice the shape.

Here is a picture taken of the stamping onto of the piston. Its a little hard to see but has the 'm' stamp with what looks to be the number 110 above and 126/128 below the m stamp.

Mahle (Germany) manufactured 3 pistons for the 1275 engine.

2552 - Forged flat top (12:1 on std bore)
2553 - Forged dished (9.75:1 on std bore)

Mahle normally stamped the size of the piston in metric but this was normally in the middle of the piston.

Both of the above had drilled oil holes behind the oil ring.

The other they made was for the 1100 S engine.
Deeper dish (8.8:1 on std bore)
Had a slot cut into piston behind oil ring.

Hope this helps. :D
