My stroker wedged crank done by reputable people seems to have a slight casting defect on a main journal It is a low spot and not proud I think Spero would have ground it if it was an issue It is all standard size and been sitting around for years and done minimal work. Any ideas gurus.Probably all good If it isnt proud I dont see how it can hurt a bearing shell. Will prolly fill with oil

Depends on what the defect is, if it's just a small gouge and below the journal height with smoothed off edges it will probably be OK but not ideal. Got a picture to share?

I would want to see a pic before commenting, but as a rule of thumb, I would not be
inclined to use a crank with a defect, a broken crank gets very expensive. If what you see is small, how much cant you see. If this was offset ground it should have been picked up at that stage before spending any more money on it. Put up some pics when its back you may find you get more accurate advice.

Depending on how deep the defect is, it could be ground to a STD undersize and be totally removed.

Spiro ground a rusted std/std crank for me this year, the mains only just cleaned up at -.020" due to pitting on the front journal. There is a very slight pit mark that can be seen not felt, Spiro says it will be fine. Not worth wasting another .010" of crank life just to eliminate it.
He does do a great fillet radius, knows his stuff.

Hi Ian
I think you might find that the mark on your crank is where Spiro straightened the crank,if it looks like some one has hit it on the edge of the radius with a blunt chisel that's what it will be.
This is the way we all straighten cranks and cams, you do not put them under a press as this is the way to brake them,
it will not be a problem.
