Hey guys,
About to pick up a mini with a 12HD engine. Pretty sure this is a Metro engine? Is there a great deal of difference between this and a Cooper motor and would the same mods for increasing power apply?

Cheers
Simon

Put the engine code in here and it will tell you the original spec (which might be different to the engine now)
http://www.guess-works.com/Tech/engine.htm

From a short block there isn’t much difference, the cam and head really set them apart. The MG Metro (72hp) was pretty close to the Cooper S spec (76hp) as it had a better cam and head than the standard 1275 metro (60hp)

Same mods apply... though the later engines used lower grade steel for the crankshafts and heavier conrods. Doesn't make a significant difference unless it's a race car
