I bought this as a roller about 15 years ago, it seems to be rust free but the previous owner loved the old scrape on body deadener, even covered the speedo surround! Has anyone tried to remove the horrible black stuff? What year/model do you reckon the Morris is? Soon after I got it a Leyland with a 1275 came along as a donor.

The ID plate YMA2S2 9838 is from a Deluxe which was delivered around 10/65. But the car looks like its had a few cosmetic changes. Does it have a stamping on the radiator shroud similar to M2/05 9330's

It came with a motor and box but I don't think it was the one out of it. What cosmetic changes can you see? Sorry, photos are a bit confusing, the first pic is the donor Leyland and the rest are the Roller.

Wondering whether a wire wheel will get the black stuff off?

get some dry ice, lay it over the area of the black stuff you want to get rid of, wait a bit, then give it a wallop with a rubber mallet, it will pop straight off. look it up on youtube.

I've had it on the hoist with my special "rust detecting screwdriver" and all seemed OK.

Looks like M2 D5 then 9365 but I'm not sre about the "3" the stamping isn't too flash.

The body build stampings were only needed on the assembly line and were painted over. They are always hard to see. Yours would be M2/05 (the build code for a deluxe) and 9365 (approx 500 less than the car number)

The one you need to be visible is the chassis number located below the ID plate. Probably hidden under all that black stuff.

Old mate actually left that number uncovered, you can read it and it matches the ID plate.
So stupid question, is it referred to as a Mark 1 or 2 ? Thanks for your patience.

DeLuxe's were just DeLuxe's until the highly desirable Mini K came along...never heard anyone to refer to a MK1 or 2 etc in the day...(UK was different of course, they loved their marque builds)

Yes, in short it is a Mk1. But an Aussie Mk1 so not all the parts are compatible with UK Mk1 cars.

Yours is from the first year of the deluxe model

changes were made on the run as well, so you could say we have a pre-Mk1, Mk 1, Mk 1.3, Mk 1.5, Mk 1.7, Mk2, Mk 2.5 ... or something
