Under the rear seat cushion on my Mk2 is a small piece of foam (around a foot square) sitting loosely in the middle of the seat platform. Is this all that would have been fitted originally?

Mine has 2 pieces of foam, one on each side. Foam is the same as it was 42 years ago when I bought this car.

The foam is attached to the seat? Anything sitting on the metal platform below the seat cushion? That's where I have the small piece of foam

The foam, 10" x 11" (inches), is attached to the seat base, but I have 2 other bases, 1970 vintage acquired 2 years ago, one has the foam attached and one doesn't. No foam attached to the metal platform.

Thanks CGO. So looks like there is not supposed to be any foam on the platform, just under the seat itself. Like your collection of classic cars by the way. I have just the one - a 1970 Cooper S as well, an SPO41. Crystal white as yours seems to be.

Yep it's Crystal White, I did change its colour though in the 1980s, but it is now back to its birth colour.

It has been a great servant, owned it for 2/3 of my life, that's scary.
