Next step was to work on the rear wheel tubs. This meant turning the car around and removing the engine. Two wheels and 8 bolts later and it’s out.
I do like the stance of the mini with the 15” wheels. The turning circle was even better than my Vtec mini which was exciting.

Cheers. It won’t suit everyone’s taste....but then the whole project might not either.

The engine had to come out again so I could work on the rear wheel tubs. Before that I had sort out the rear valance. It has a small bit of rust on the bottom that had to be removed. I tried to cut it out and add metal back in but was just too thin.
So I cut about 30mm off the whole lot and re bent the bottom to look pretty normal.

For the tubs, some 1mm sheetmetal, some bends and welds later and they were done.
It really stiffened up the rear body by tying the chassis rails into the rear quarters.

More progress. I’ll let the photos do the talking.
The more I do on the car the more the sleeper look disappears.

That's some really nice work tying the tubs in to the chassis rail and the body, lots of different bits to bring together and it looks great.

Dutchy,

Your vision for this project is commendable, your engineering and fabrication skills breathtaking, and the posting of project progress in the public domain an inspiration to many.

On behalf of the Ausmini community thank you for sharing your work. We all look forward to one day soon hearing that unique Rex rasp as the beast disappears into the sunset.
