Andosoft noticed the temperature differences in the cylinder head. In fact the hottest part of the image was actually the edge of the exhaust manifold.

The BORROWED $1000 camera automatically scales the pictures from hottest to coolest.
The exhaust heats up very quickly in the 3km till I took the "hot" photos. The Aluminium sump by contrast take much longer as it follows the rise in oil temp. The "hotspot" in the image is probably part of the exhaust pipe.
Thank goodness our old car engines are mostly cast iron which is quite tolerant of thermal and expansion differences.
