FLYWHEEL PULLER - Submitted by 'drmini in aust'
1. get a bit of 3/4" (or 20mm) plate about 150mm dia.
2. drill a 1" hole in the middle, a lathe is best for this.
3. Mark a pitch circle and make it 4.0" (101.6mm) PCD on the plate, around the centre hole, & drill 3 holes 10.5mm dia, equal spaced.
4. Buy 3 off Grade 8, 3/8" UNF bolts, 3-1/2" long.
5. Buy a Grade 8, 1" UNF bolt 2-1/2" long, and a 1" UNF Grade 8 nut.
6. Screw the 1" bolt into the nut and into the hole, then arc weld the nut onto the plate all round. Decent weld, it has to hold TONS. Either stick weld it or use an industrial MIG welder, not a bodywork toy..
7. Make a round steel pad to sit on the end of crank, for bolt to push on- it wants to be 30mm dia x 10mm thick. (Remove the flywheel bolt, don't press against it).
8. My puller has a bit of steel bar 20mm diameter x 150 long welded radially on the plate. This lets me put 3ft of pipe on it to get serious. Another 3 ft bit of pipe for the breaker bar..
9. OIL ALL THE THREADS.
10. Screw the 3 bolts into the flywheel, so they are in as far as possible and equal length. Fit pad to crank. Tighten centre bolt. Stand clear....
Don't belt the end of centre bolt with a VBFH, it is not needed and will only **** the bolt and/or your crank thrust washers..
Enjoy!
