Yes you do need a TIG. Everybody building a car should have one. And a plasma cutter. Oh heck, we should have every tool known to man. That would be perfect. I mostly need a proper garage, hopefully soon.[/quote]

Well, I did some more work today. I'm trying to get the shell ready for some primer but I have a few more things I need to do before it's ready. One of them required me to work on the gas filler. So I figured this is partly related to the engine swap part of the job so here is what I did today.
I wanted to smooth out the cut out in the side of the car and make the car a little safer as far as fuel being able to enter the car in case of an accident. But I had to do the modifications to the gas filler before I welded the recessed part to the car. I wanted to still run a stock looking gas cap so I welded the filler neck from the Traveller tank onto the smaller filler tube from the Civic donor. It was slightly smaller in diameter so I took some wedges out of the Traveller neck in a few places and did some hammer work and made it fit the smaller Honda tube. I also put a flange on to the neck so it could screw onto the car with a couple allen key bolts. Also I TIG'ed a couple nuts on the back so I didn't have to try and get a wrench up in there. I still have some work to to on the far end of the tube that will attach to the fuel tank with the Civic rubber hose.

I'm unsure what tank I'm going to use which is part of the reason I decided to make the filler the way I did. I'm going to have to modify whatever tank I use quite a bit so I might just weld up my own from scratch. The tank that was in it was a custom tank that somebody made for it, but it's just too heavy. I haven't weighed it, but you'd swear it is full, even when it is empty. I was shocked when I pulled it out. It was quite abit heavier than the Honda Civic tank was.

The TIG machine doubles as a stick welder, but the plasma cutter is a separate machine.

dont you think you could fit a really big tank inside the rear subframe?
I was looking at that when dropping my tank the other month.
You could even fit an lpg donut in there i reckon.

That is a decent amount of room, especially without the recessed area for the spare tire in the rear cargo area of the floor. But I'm planning on putting the spare tire under there and the muffler, that doesn't leave much room. So I thing I'll keep the tank in the stock location.

No pics. But I thought I would update this thread and mention I just did another 5 hours of work on the wiring harness for a total of about 15 hours. I sold the Mini wiring harness and I am replacing it with a complete Honda harness from the donor car. So I have stripped it right down and I'm going through removing what I don't need and I am making a few modifications. Some of the modifications are to change how some things work and some are to make the wires run where I want them to go. I did a test fit the other day so I could figure out roughly where things should go. After some more work I will test fit the harness again.
I think I'm a little sick, because I do enjoy the wiring especially all of the soldering, heat shrink tubing and taping everything back up.
