Hi Matt
First of all lets get the price of this head out of the way $3000.00 +gst complete head
Manifold $250.oo +gst takes 2 webers.
Now lets talk about road engines the figures I quoted for the elder head were every day drivers as I will endever to prove to you all.
Now I wasn’t going to say to much about this yet because its still in development stages
But I have designed and developed a new camshaft for the minis and you being a man of the world will under stand how good this cam is.
Duration 260 deg valve timing of 20 60
Lift .270 on lobe
So it’s a very small cam its 6 deg smaller than a kent 266 and .004 tho more lift and 2 deg
More duration than the sw5 but has .020 tho less lift but out performs all of these cams by far nothing will come any where near it in its class and will out perform other cams that are much bigger, the dyno engine I built is 1380cc 12g940 road head single 13/4
Hif SU on a mini spares inlet manifold ,maniflow long centre branch extractors
The power figures were
Torque HP
3000 98ftlb 56
3500 102ftlb 68
4000 105ftlb 80
4500 104 89
5000 105 100
5500 103 108
6000 100 114
6500 96 119
7000 79 105
Now as soon as I put a long manifold on with a weber it went 112ftlb torque and 125 hp
This is more than I see out of some race engines.this cam is rather radical design and im still doing more testing on it.
Now if we were to put this cam with the elder head how drivable would that be,note that this motor is making its power by 6500 rpm 500 rpm than a std cooper S
Gr, i can see the reasoning behind the cam design,, the sw5 was heading in that direction,,, it`s basically similar valve timings as a std-ish 1100"S" (1275) but with a little more duration & a little more lift,,, obviously not too much more lift to need stoopid strong springs or cause drama with chewing lobes & followers,,, it`s pretty close to the Waggot 509 grind actually, just with a little less timing/duration.
The valve lift acceleration rate is kept high enough to make for decent flow & fairly good chamber fill early in the revs,,, & yes obviously it`s not a stoopid big lumpy cam for high massive revs ,,, just a lovely & smooth & drivable broad spread... & i`m glad you mentioned it`s comparison to other cams "In it`s Class"
Something like that in my 1510cc engine with one of those 7 port heads would just be the bees knees for all round road & race use
I could drive to the track in my road registered mini, running pump fuel , keeping revs down & have a good chance of keeping up with some of the front runners in Improved production class
maybe hang around 5th place ,,, now that would be good to do... The front runners are a particulary quick (Rotorys & turbo escorts etc) & i`ve been concidering building my green "S" into an improved production car with a turbo injected bimmer donk,,, this way i can swap out the donk for an N/A 5-port & run in the Group N Category as well
That`s Something Billy Westerman, Greg Burrow & Freddy Sayers have been at me for years to do
It`s a pity they won`t let me run the 7 port in group N
