Someone on here mentioned it couple of weeks ago and I have always found this in my car. Until I took the tank out & looked at the sender I found there's an adjustment screw on it.

Works perfectly now .... Who was it ?

Can't you just bend the float arm?

I had to remove my fuel tank & nut it out a bit as someone else installed sender into my tank. (new smith gauges)

Firstly remove sender from tank & test what it reads on gauge when float is at full & empty positions. Finetune with screw accordingly.

Then fit into tank (whilst out of car) & test if it still reads full & empty In tank. I had to remove sender again & adjust the length PO had made the float.

Install & test again.

Works perfectly now

I've not seen an adjustment on my tank senders before.

Neither have I. I'm suspecting that it might be a Rover thing.

Not identical to mine but in bottom corner that nubby bit can fit a flatblade screwdriver.[/img]

you should take more notice of your fuel gauge sender units GT,,, they are probably a bit miffed that you havn`t "played" with them,,, now they`ll be ignoring you for the next month or so

Yeah, go down the shed, but only do it if your naked!

The stops on them are only part of the outer case bent to a tab.

Ah ok, so is it a later model or replacement sender thing?

Well, since Matt would go (must have clothes on) I did. Wadda ya know.

The 'shaft' coming in (bent wire with the float on it) to the send unit itself, the other side of where it pivots pokes out and has a slot on it for a screw drive. I did know of this before, however, I stuck a screw driver in it and it can be moved relitive to the arm. By moving or turn it set the wiper in a different postion giving adjustment.

This was on the Rover sender and a NOS ~74 one I have. I think these were the same going back to the 60's.

Thanks Fiji :D

I've got some pics, just me a tick to have some ice cream.

Pics. This is the Rover sender. In this pic, you can see the float arm entering the sender from the right and the large round pivot on the left

Image

.......which had a slot head.

Hold the arm and turn the slot head to adjust.

No worries

Yep Screwy will move the float arm. Once it is at the full point on sender turn it in same direction (a little is alot) & can adjust gauge reading.

While since I had the sender out of my tank but I'm sure the "mechanism" part was mounted directly on the plate - no arm
