Hi all
This is not really an engine conversion but a DNA infusion.
I am converting a 1964 Morris 850 to have the floor pan, fire wall, suspension and AWD running gear from a Subaru Liberty.
It currently still has the original 2.2 NA engine but this will eventually be replaced with a 2.5 STI engine.
Because of the "major structural modifications" the hybrid will be classed as an ICV (Independently Constructed Vehicle) by the NSW RTA. It will be road registered.
I will update this thread with pictures as I go.

Below is the shortened chassis !

The view most other road users will see !

Regards
Phil

Holy crap!

Looks quite fat on the wheels, and the work is for the most part done already!

I'm keen to see the rest. How did you go about building the chassis?

I cut all of the excess bodywork off the Liberty and welded in some telescopic RHS with a 540mm gap which is the difference between the liberty and mini wheelbase.

Cut the bit out in the middle and winch the two halves together.

I designed the space frame to comply with CAMS roll cage regulations in case I want to race it.

Do you have to extend the front?

Yes, 150mm, it sounds a lot but it is largely camouflaged by the massive wheel arches so it is not that noticeable (unless you park it beside a standard mini).Image
The complete front flips forward for access.

Now that's access !

I have been building this for about 4 years in limited spare time.
Progress has slowed lately due to purchase of a 64 850 with a 1275 engine. Tidying that up to get registered and then back to the "real project".
I now need to rip out all the excess cabling from the liberty loom and install that. Currently there is way more loom than there is space for it.

Yeah wow! looks awesome. Look forward to seeing this finished. You said something about panning to put the engine from an impreza into it?

What did you do to shorten the driveshaft? is it actually the stock one shortened or have you replaced it with one already the correct length? Like these guys did with their corolla AWD mini: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSbo6E5zycc

Still looks amazing. Makes me think all sorts of dangerous creations. Great fab skills too.
